The Architectural Scientist and Building Technology Researcher Mae-ling Lokko discusses some reflections on the role of the architect in unalienating different actors/materials that surround the building material life cycle.
Lokko‘s research integrates technical, environmental, social and cultural criteria that question contemporary material value systems, and codevelops business models for upcycling between the Global North and South.
Recent projects have been exhibited globally at the Serpentine Gallery, London (2019), 4th Istanbul Design Biennial (2018), Rhode Island School of Design (2018), and the Mmofra Foundation, Accra (2017–present) amongst others.
